Favorite Children's Books?

I am wondering...

1.  What were your favorite books as a child?
2.  And what are your favorite books to read to the children in your life now?

  1. It's been such a long time ago that I hardly remember the little kid books that were read to me. I remember my mom reaching Egermier's Bible Story Book, but I didn't like the pictures. They were scary. I loved to read and my favorite place was the library; I devoured books. One of my favorite books to read to kids today is The Boy Who Didn't Believe in Spring, by Lucille Clifton and Brinton Turkle. It's a delightful story of a little boy who lives in the inner city and his efforts to find evidence of springtime. Every Christmas I used to read to my kids The Littlest Angel, by Charles Tazewell and Paul Michich. It's a classic. Jay asked me to read it to Henry this year. I always cry when I read it, and I did again. Even Jay teared up this time. I could go on and on, but I'll stop.

  3. The first books I remember loving as a child were part of a nature series. I finally tracked them down last year on Amazon.

  5. As a child the Little House series was my favorite. Our girls are now hooked on the audio version. They've listened to the entire series at least six times. We also love books by Cynthia Rylant. She has several series: "Poppleton", "Henry and Mudge", "Annie and Snowball", "Mr. Putter and Tabby", the "Cobblestreet Cousins" and more. Some of our favorite classics include: "Hiedi", "Rabbit Hill","The Chronicles of Narnia" and the Beatrix Potter stories. We love to read. Library day is one of our favorites. We usually can't leave without at least two large bags crammed full of books, and I've been known to max out my limit of 75 books checked out at a time.

  6. We're reading the Jesus storybook bible these days. I think when we get more into reading it's going to be all richard scary's goldbug books. Search and find books are GREAT for re-reading.

  7. I loved The Secret Garden most of all.
I remember many other books, many of which I read to Henry now, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Where the Wild Things Are. The Velveteen Rabbit, Corduroy, Ted E. Bear and more. We also are reading the new "Jesus Storybook Bible" from you. Henry really seems to listen and enjoy the pictures.

  8. When we were little we read a lot of Dr. Seuss, the Bernstein bears, Bill Peet, etc., but our favorite thing to do at the local library was to pick out the picture books with the "funnest" pictures. At home, we would be content for hours to just flip through the pages.
